PSY’s iconic music video for Gangnam Style has made history by becoming the first K-pop video to reach a staggering 5 billion views on YouTube.
According to P-Nation, PSY’s agency, the music video for Gangnam Style has reached an incredible 5.025 billion views on YouTube on December 30.
Gangnam Style is the title track of PSY’s sixth studio album, PSY 6 PART 1, which was released in July 2012. This mega-hit song propelled PSY to incredible heights, as it spent a remarkable 7 weeks at the second spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This achievement made him the first K-pop artist to reach such a high position on the chart.
The Gangnam Style music video made history not once, but twice! It became the first YouTube content to surpass 1 billion and 2 billion views, which actually changed how YouTube counts views. In addition it’s been steadily gaining more views for a whopping 11 years.
According to PSY’s agency, he expressed his excitement by saying, “When I first hit 10 million views, I celebrated with my colleagues and dreamed of reaching 50 million views. Now, I’m 100 times happier than that dream!”
