HYBE’s youngest girl group, ILLIT, made their debut on the Billboard HOT 100 with their debut song Magnetic. This marks the first instance in K-pop history where a new group has entered Billboard’s HOT 100 with their debut track.
According to the latest chart released on April 15 (local time), the title track Magnetic from the group’s 1st mini album, SUPER REAL ME, has entered the 91st position on the HOT100 chart (as of April 20th).
This achievement makes ILLIT the first K-pop group to have their debut song on Billboard’s primary song chart. ILLIT, who made their debut on March 25, also holds the record for the fastest K-pop artist to enter the HOT 100 after debuting.
HOT 100 ranks artists based on album sales, digital music sales, streaming numbers, radio play counts, YouTube views, and more. For new and non-English-speaking artists like ILLIT, breaking into radio airplay categories is tough due to limited local recognition. However, the group managed to overcome these challenges with their debut album.
In addition, Magnetic made it to the ‘Daily Top Song Global’ on Spotify, the world’s largest music streaming platform, on its debut day and later entered the Weekly Top Song US chart. Since then, the song has consistently climbed the ranks and spent two weeks on the UK’s Official Single Top 100.
