ADOR has taken legal action to block NewJeans members from signing independent advertising deals. The group and their label have been in a heated legal battle since last year.
In November 2024, NewJeans announced their departure from ADOR by announcing contract termination since their demands for corrective actions were not met.
In the latest development, ADOR has filed an injunction to stop the members from signing ad deals on their own. The move comes after the members declared they would be taking an independent path following a surprise contract termination notice.
According to the label, the members have been reaching out to advertisers directly, and they want to prevent any confusion or damage to third parties that might result.
ADOR expressed concerns that the ongoing legal battle, including the injunction and upcoming lawsuit, may drag on. It will ultimately cause harm to both NewJeans and the agency. The agency fears that this prolonged dispute will only lead to lasting scars, benefiting no one.
Despite this, it showed its willingness to engage in sincere and open dialogue to swiftly resolve the issue and move forward.
ADOR warned, “If the members’ independent actions continue to cause confusion in the market and industry, it will inevitably lead to a decline in NewJeans’ brand value.” They further explained, “Even if a court ruling confirms the validity of the exclusive contract years later, it may be too late to restore the situation to its original state.”
Previously, ADOR filed a lawsuit in December last year to confirm the validity of its exclusive contract with NewJeans members at the Seoul Central District Court.
Meanwhile, NewJeans concluded their scheduled activities with ADOR with their appearance at the 39th Golden Disc Awards on January 5.
