ATEEZ’s Hongjoong has sparked controversy with his latest song, which appears to take a jab at HYBE’s Chairman Bang Si Hyuk.
The lyrics seem to address the recent scandals surrounding Bang Si Hyuk, including his involvement in the distribution of internal documents that contained derogatory comments about K-pop idols.
On January 15, Hongjoong released a single “SMB” in collaboration with Palestinian-American rapper Odetari. The lyrics written by the ATEEZ leader himself are attracting attention.
“SMB” incorporates a mix of English and Korean, and features a verse that expresses disregard for public opinion.

Hongjoong’s verse criticizes his critics for focusing on him and his fellow artists instead of reflecting on themselves. Fans worldwide have been speculating that the 26-year-old K-pop star is taking aim at HYBE’s Chairman Bang Si Hyuk, aka “Hitman” Bang.
The lyrics’ use of “hitman” and “bang” has sparked rumors that they are referencing HYBE’s leaked internal documents from 2024. The controversial assessment document harshly criticized K-pop idols for their looks and talents.
Additionally, there are claims that Odetari joined Hongjoong in targeting HYBE, especially since HYBE America CEO Scooter Braun has openly supported Israel. In fact, BTS fans organized a truck protest outside the agency’s headquarters to oppose what they see as HYBE’s support for Zionism.
