South Korea is grieving after a tragic plane crash that resulted in the loss of 179 lives. In response, a mourning period has been declared from December 29 to January 4.
Many K-pop, Kdrama, and entertainment events were canceled to show respect to the grieving families. Comeback promotions, media showcases, award shows, music festivals, concerts, and fan meetings were postponed by K-pop groups and soloists.
The latest one to join the list is BLACKPINK’s Jisoo. The singer has canceled her birthday event, planned for January 3. Previously, birthday events and content releases for BTS V were also canceled on December 30, when he turned 29.
On December 31, Jisoo announced through her personal label BLISSOO, saying, “Our heartfelt condolences go to the victims and their grieving families. May they rest in peace.
To honor the national mourning period, we’ll pause this week’s birthday content and social media posts.”
Jisoo is being praised by fans for showing respect and empathy by canceling her event following the tragic plane crash.
On December 29 at 9:07 AM, Jeju Air Flight 7C2216 crashed into the outer wall of the runway at Muan International Airport during landing. The plane had 181 people on board: 6 crew members, 173 Korean passengers, and 2 Thai passengers. Tragically, 179 lives were lost, with only 2 survivors.
On the work front, Jisoo is filming her next project “Boyfriend on Demand” (formerly “Monthly Boyfriend”). Along with bandmates Jennie and Lisa, she is also expected to release her debut album in early 2025 before resuming BLACKPINK activities.
