Rosé has officially become the K-pop queen with the latest record. The BLACKPINK member has been dominating the global charts since October last year with her collaboration song ‘APT.’ with Bruno Mars. Even over a year after its release, the song still dominates Spotify, UK Official Singles, YouTube, and Billboard charts. This week, it completed its 34-week run on the prestigious Billboard HOT 100 chart.
According to the Billboard chart released on June 17, Rosé’s ‘APT.’ (feat. Bruno Mars) settled at No. 24 on the HOT 100.
However, this is not just any record; ‘APT.’ by Rosé has become the longest-charting K-pop hit on the HOT 100. The 28-year-old vocalist has surpassed K-pop heavyweights like Jimin, BTS, and PSY to achieve this record.
Previously, the record for the longest-charting K-pop HOT 100 hit was held by Jimin’s ‘WHO’ (released in July 2024), which charted for 33 weeks. Back then, Jimin broke the record previously held by the classic BTS number ‘Dynamite’ (32 weeks).
For those unversed, the longest charting songs by K-pop acts in Hot 100 history:
- ‘APT.’, Rosé and Bruno Mars (34 weeks)
- ‘Who’, Jimin of BTS(33 weeks)
- ‘Dynamite’, BTS (32 weeks)
- ‘Gangnam Style’, PSY (31 weeks)
- ‘Cupid’, FIFTY FIFTY (25 weeks)
Since the beginning, ‘APT.’ has been on a record-breaking spree. It became the fastest song by a K-pop artist to surpass 1 billion views on YouTube. Within seven months, the song has garnered 1.7 billion views on YouTube.
It is safe to say Rosé has achieved what no other K-pop female artist has done before. While many attribute the song’s success to Bruno Mars, there is no denying that she played a major role.
‘APT.’s success story began with a perfect all-kill (PAK) on Korean music platforms upon release. On November 2, 2024, she made history by becoming the first K-pop female soloist to enter the Billboard HOT 100’s Top 10, debuting at No. 8. This is no small feat, as it is not easy to secure a spot in the top ten. After the holiday season was over, it peaked at No. 3 on the chart in January.
Internationally, ‘APT.’ dominated charts across multiple regions. The track topped the iTunes charts in 40 countries, claimed the No. 1 spot on China’s QQ Music, and led Spotify’s U.S. charts.
It was a pre-release from Rosé’s first full album, ‘rosie‘ dropped on December 6, 2024. ‘APT.’ was more popular than the title track ‘toxic till the end,’ which charted at No.90. The album settled at No. 3 on the Billboard 200.
Following the massive success of ‘APT.’ in the US, Rosé went on to contribute to the F1 movie soundtrack with the song ‘Messy.’ She has now collaborated with Alex Warren on the song ‘On My Mind,’ out on July 18.
Meanwhile, Rosé and the BLACKPINK girls, Jennie, Jisoo, and Lisa, are occupied with the preparations for their group comeback, happening this month.
