Epik High’s leader and rapper dropped his collaboration song “Stop The Rain” with RM on May 2. This is his second collab with the 30-year-old star after joining him as a featured artist on his solo song “All Day” from his debut album “Indigo”.
The heartfelt lyrics of the song perfectly address mental health challenges, suicide ideation, physical abuse, pain, and survival. The song’s brutal honesty reveals why Tablo hesitated to release this song despite it being made two years ago.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the Epik High leader shared that he did not want RM to receive any hate, saying, “I was worried how it would impact him, I did not want him to be harmed in any way.”
“Stop The Rain” was released a month prior to his scheduled military discharge on June 10. Fans are heartbroken to learn about the rapper’s struggles relating to mental health and the weight of fame.
RM references the 27 Club in the song’s viral verses. For those unversed, the 27 Club is a tragic cohort of music artists who died at the age of 27 years. These musicians include Jonghyun from SHINee, Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Amy Winehouse, and Janis Joplin. At 29, RM admitted to dreaming of escape, another verse, “Two seconds from fallin’ into nothing,” also highlights his emotional struggles.
Besides the English lyrics of “Stop The Rain” RM’s single Korean line “다시 덫 뒤에 덫 (“trap after trap again”) hits hardest. This raw metaphor – of being endlessly trapped in cycles of pain – cuts deeper in his native language.
Meanwhile, RM will complete his mandatory military service on June 10, 2025, and resume solo and group activities in the latter half of the year.
