Becoming a full-fledged member of the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA) as a K-Pop idol is like hitting the jackpot in the music realm. It’s an extraordinary accomplishment that only a handful of talented artists achieve each year.
This year, two popular and talented K-pop idols were promoted to full members of the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA).
To become eligible for full membership in KOMCA, an artist must rake in a minimum of 30 million won in royalties annually, gain approval from the board of directors, and have held junior membership for at least three years.
In the year 2024, the K-Pop world celebrated as BTS’ Jungkook and (G)I-DLE’s Soyeon achieved this incredible milestone, earning their rightful place as full-fledged members of the association.
BTS’ Jungkook
Jungkook is making a splash as a solo artist. 2023 was an incredible year for the BTS’ maknae as he shattered many records and ruled the charts with solo music.
Golden became the very first K-Pop soloist album to rack up over 2 billion streams on Spotify. It also held its ground on the Billboard 200 chart for a whopping 12 weeks, setting a brand new record for a K-Pop solo album.
Jungkook had a hand in writing more than 18 BTS tracks and 6 of his own solo songs. From the very beginning of his career in 2013, he’s been contributing his talents to BTS’s music.
This year, the Seven singer has become the official member of KOMCA as a songwriter. He is the fourth BTS member promoted to full member after SUGA, RM, and J-Hope.
Soyeon of (G)I-DLE
Soyeon, the leader of (G)I-DLE, made a huge impact in 2023. Her contributions to the group’s success and her own artistic growth were so significant that she earned a well-deserved promotion to become a full member of the KOMCA.
Soyeon is an incredibly talented songwriter and producer. She’s been a key player in (G)I-DLE’s music, writing, composing, and arranging multiple tracks for the group. She’s been heavily involved in their new album, 2, working on nearly every single track, including the catchy title track Super Lady.
Moreover, she has played a major role in maintaining the distinct image of (G)I-DLE through her songwriting skills.
Lastly, both Jungkook and Soyeon have proved their talent by becoming a full-fledged member of KOMCA.
