BTS’ huge popularity has unfortunately made them a target for various forms of harassment. Sasaeng fans and others often go to extreme lengths to steal their personal info, stalk them, and worse.
A shocking incident involving BTS member Jungkook recently came to light, where a staggering 8.4 billion won worth of his stocks were stolen.
Even though their agency, BIGHIT MUSIC, is actively taking legal action against those perpetrators, cybercrimes against the members haven’t stopped. More recently, a person was caught by authorities who sold fight information of BTS and other K-pop groups and made around 10 million won in revenue.
On March 31, BTS agency BIGHIT MUSIC shared an update on the legal proceedings against perpetrators of malicious activities including defamation, insults, sexual harassment, spread of false rumors, and ill-intentioned criticism.
The label shared that the stalker received a fine earlier this month, “At the end of last year, a serious criminal act, including stalking, was committed against our artist, prompting immediate action on our part.”
“We filed a report to police, and the perpetrator was arrested in flagrante delicto (while committing the offense), subsequently detained, and prosecuted. Earlier this year, the court sentenced the perpetrator to a fine of 10 million KRW,” BIGHIT MUSIC added.
They further gave an update regarding the ongoing lawsuit against infamous YouTuber Sojang, “As you may have seen in the media, the first-instance court has ruled that “Taldeok Camp,” a so-called “cyber wrecker”, is liable for damages amounting to 76 million Won. “Taldeok Camp” has filed an appeal since, and we are actively responding in the appellate process. We remain committed to ensuring that “Taldeok Camp” is held accountable for the illegal actions committed against our artists.”
The agency revealed that multiple individuals engaged in malicious combat activities have been identified and held accountable. Following investigations, some have received fines, while others are facing prosecution or trial.
BIGHIT MUSIC has been actively monitoring and collecting evidence of malicious posts on various online platforms, including DCInside, Instiz, Daum Cafe, Ilgan Best, and X (formerly Twitter). Thanks to fan reports and real-time tracking, the company has gathered significant evidence and filed formal complaints with law enforcement. The label is also keeping a close eye on harmful content targeting BTS members serving in the military and will continue to report and pursue legal action against such activities.
BIGHIT MUSIC encourages fans to report any violations of their artists’ rights. If fans come across malicious posts or illegal activities, such as IP infringement, they can submit a report through the HYBE Artist Rights Violation Report Website (protect.hybecorp.com).
They recommend providing full-screen PC screenshots or full-page print files (PDF) instead of mobile screenshots. Fans should ensure the URL, username, post content, and screenshot date are clearly visible.
Meanwhile, all BTS members will reunite to continue group activities when Suga, RM, V, Jungkook, and Jimin complete military service in June. If reports are true, they will make a comeback after three years and embark on a world tour.
