Chun Woo Hee is reportedly in talks for a major role in “Veteran 3,” the next film in the popular action series.
On February 11, her agency, BLITZWAY Entertainment, confirmed that they have “received the offer and are positively reviewing it.” If she accepts, it would be her first big-screen role in about three years, since her last big-screen appearance in Unlocked.
The “Veteran” series is a highly successful crime film franchise directed by Ryoo Seung Wan. It centers on the tough detective Seo Do Cheol, played by superstar Hwang Jung Min.
The first film, simply titled Veteran, was released in 2015. It was a massive hit and drew over 13.4 million moviegoers in Korea. The story followed detective Seo Do Cheol as he took on a corrupt and arrogant young heir (played by Yoo Ah In) from a powerful family.
The sequel, officially named I, The Executioner, arrived in 2024. It took a darker turn, with Seo Do Cheol hunting a vigilante serial killer. This villain was played by Jung Hae In, who won a Best Supporting Actor award for his chilling performance at the 2024 Blue Dragon Film Awards. The sequel also performed very well and sold over 7.2 million tickets.
The second film ended with a post-credits scene showing the villain Park Sun Woo escaping, which set up the story for Veteran 3.
Idol-turned-actor Lee Junho has already been confirmed to play the main villain in the new film. Director Ryoo Seung Wan and lead actor Hwang Jung Min are set to return. Chun Woo Hee’s potential role is expected to add intensity to the film.
She is known for her incredible acting range and seamlessly moves between good and evil roles in projects like the horror film The Wailing, the drama Anchor, and the recent Netflix series The Eight Show. The 38-year-old actress recently starred alongside Song Joong Ki in the JTBC drama My Youth.
Veteran 3 will begin full-scale production after director Ryoo Seung Wan completes promotions for his latest film, Humint, which is in theaters now. Once that schedule is complete, the team is expected to move forward with finalizing the cast, including Chun Woo Hee’s role, and begin full-scale filming.
Fans are looking forward to the official casting announcement and the start of production.
