The legal battle between former LOONA member CHUU and her former agency Blockberry Creative has been ongoing since 2022.
The long-standing legal dispute has been resolved in favor of CHUU as the Supreme Court upholds the previous ruling.
On June 27, the Supreme Court’s 3rd Division delivered a final verdict, upholding the lower court’s decision in favor of the Underwater singer. The court confirmed that her exclusive contract with Blockberry Creative is indeed invalid.
It marks a major win for the K-pop star in her lengthy legal battle against her former agency.
CHUU took legal action against Blockberry Creative in December 2021 over a contract dispute. In response, the agency removed her from the group in November 2022, citing abuse of power as the reason.
However, the 24-year-old singer disputed this claim, citing disagreements over profit sharing and a breakdown of trust.
The court ruled in CHUU’s favor in August 2023, declaring her contract with Blockberry Creative null and void. The label was also ordered to pay the legal fees. Blockberry Creative appealed the decision, but she won the second trial held in March 2024.
The agency again filed an appeal, however, she won the final lawsuit, invalidating their exclusive contract. The dispute centered on profit distribution and other issues. With this victory, she is now free to pursue her career without constraints.
On the work front, CHUU has released her second mini-album, Strawberry Rush, and is actively promoting her music.
