The Japanese animated film Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Infinity Castle Arc continues its historic run in Korean theaters, surpassing 3 million viewers in record time. Plus, it climbed to fourth place among the highest-grossing Japanese animations ever released in the country.
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Attracted 3 Million Viewers in Just 10 Days
According to data from the Korean Film Council on September 1, Infinity Arc drew 800,832 viewers nationwide between August 29 and 31, bringing its total audience to 3,154,070. Remarkably, the film surpassed the 3 million milestone in only 10 days since its August 22 release.
This pace outperformed My Daughter Is a Zombie, the year’s top domestic box office hit, which reached the same mark in 11 days. It also exceeded the total audience of its predecessor, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train (2021), which drew 2.22 million viewers, in less than a week.
Surpassing “Howl’s Moving Castle”
With this achievement, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle overtook Hayao Miyazaki’s Howl’s Moving Castle (2004), which had 3.01 million admissions. As a result, it secured the No. 4 spot in Korea’s all-time box office rankings for Japanese animated films. Industry insiders now anticipate whether it can surpass Suzume (2023), which holds the top spot with 5.58 million viewers.
Unprecedented Records in 2025
From its opening day, Infinity Castle shattered multiple records among both domestic and international releases this year:
- Highest opening-day audience with 510,000 admissions.
- The biggest single-day audience with 600,000 admissions.
- Fastest climb to 1 million viewers in just two days.
Even before its release, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle had already generated buzz by achieving the year’s highest advance ticket sales rate. As of September 1 (the 11th day since release), it continues to dominate real-time ticket reservations, holding more than 49% of sales.
Box Office Competition
Despite its second-weekend numbers dropping to nearly half of its opening weekend (1,603,216), the lack of strong competition suggests the film will continue its momentum through the upcoming Chuseok holiday.
Meanwhile, other titles are still performing strongly at the box office:
- My Daughter Is a Zombie added 201,542 viewers, reaching a cumulative 5,349,786 admissions.
- F1: The Movie attracted 151,638 viewers, totaling 4,761,222 since its June 25 release.
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Arc marks the opening chapter of the final battle between the Demon Slayer Corps and the Upper Rank demons at Infinity Castle, their stronghold.
The film has already proven its global box office strength, drawing 18 million viewers in Japan within its first month. With Korean audiences flocking to theaters, expectations are rising that it may set a new record in the region.
