Film Company Zip, known for producing well-made films, is stepping into drama production for the first time. On December 11, Kakao Entertainment announced that the company will produce the new MBC drama The Perfect Lie, which is scheduled to air in 2026.
The studio has earned strong praise for films like Woochi, Broker, and Dark Nuns, and now it’s expanding into TV with The Perfect Lie.
The Perfect Lie is a psychological thriller about a man and a woman who remember the same moment in completely different ways. Their memories clash and lead to a tense fight for the truth. Yoo Yeon Seok and Seo Hyun Jin will star as the leads, their first reunion since Dr. Romantic season 1.
The drama follows Kang Ji Seon (Seo Hyun Jin), who works as a modern dance teacher at an arts middle school. Having watched her family’s circumstances crumble when she was young, she learned that seeing through people’s “lies” mattered more than taking their “honesty” at face value.
When she crosses paths with Min Jun Ho (Yoo Yeon Seok) by chance, she simply views him as a polite, courteous parent — but over time, she finds herself slowly letting him in.
Min Jun Ho is a cardiac surgeon known for his calm nature, gentle appearance, sharp mind, and steady character. After losing his wife, he has been raising his middle-school son on his own. When he meets Ji Seon, his son’s dance teacher, he experiences a sense of excitement and vulnerability that he hasn’t felt in years.
The Perfect Lie is directed by Jo Young Min, who also directed the recent Netflix series You and Everything Else. His past work (The Interest of Love, Do You Like Brahms? ) shows a strong focus on emotional depth and character psychology.
Yoo Yeon Seok recently appeared in When the Phone Rings and made cameos in Resident Playbook and Tastefully Yours. He is also preparing for fantasy legal drama Phantom Lawyer, coming in 2026. Seo Hyun Jin last starred in The Trunk with Gong Yoo and will lead the drama Love Me before returning to reunite with Yoo Yeon Seok in The Perfect Lie.
The drama is based on the hit British series Liar, which aired from 2017 to 2020. The original followed a teacher and a surgeon whose date leads to completely different accounts of what happened.
The series was known for its tension and strong performances and has already been remade in several countries. The Korean version will take the same core idea but tell its own story.
The Perfect Lie will air on MBC sometime in 2026.
