The upcoming BL drama Thundercloud Rainstorm confirmed its lead cast on August 22. Produced by Oak Company, a studio known for its work in the BL genre, the series is set to premiere in the second half of 2025.
Adapted from the acclaimed web novel by author Che Sim, Thundercloud Rainstorm tells the story of cousins Lee Il Jo and Seo Jeong Han, who meet again at their late uncle’s funeral. Jeonghan, who has lived a stable life, decides to take in the struggling Il Jo out of pity.
Their relationship, however, quickly changes after an unexpected kiss disrupts their fragile bond. What begins with compassion gradually evolves into jealousy, possession, and exclusivity.
The drama will reinterpret the web novel’s strong focus on human psychology and portray the characters’ shifting emotions.
Former Wanna One member Yoon Ji-sung takes on the role of Lee Il Jo, a young man dealing with poverty and instability. Since his debut in 2017, Yoon has transitioned into acting, and built a resume that includes dramas such as Let Me Be Your Knight. He has also appeared in musicals including Return, The Days, Something Rotten, and Happy Oh! Happy.
Opposite him, rookie actor Jeong Ri U will take on the role of Seo Jeonghan. Jeong has previously starred in multiple BL dramas, including Seoul Blues, Bad Guys, and Blue Boys.
The drama also boasts a talented supporting cast. Hwang Sung Yoon, who impressed audiences in Genie TV’s New Soldier 2, will play Soo Hyo. Jang Won Hyuk, recognized for his intense role in Mask Girl and Frankly Speaking, joins as Seung Jae. Lee Dong Joo, who has appeared in Squid Game Seasons 2 and 3 as well as Blue Birthday, rounds out the cast as Jeong In.
Directing the project is Min Chae Yeon, celebrated for her sensitive approach to relationship psychology in previous BL dramas. She has previously helmed Business As Usual, Happy Merry Ending, and more.

We tried to maximize the emotions of the original work and the charm of the actors by dramatizing ‘Thundercloud Rainstorm,’ which was also loved as a web novel. Director Min Chae Yeon’s delicate directing, solid story, and perfect casting combination are receiving a lot of attention from domestic and foreign fans even before the broadcast.
Meanwhile, Thundercloud Rainstorm will begin premiering later this year.
