Baekhyun has set a new record for the highest first-day sales by a solo K-pop artist in 2025 so far. He has dethroned BTS member Jin to occupy the top spot as his newly released album “Essence of Reverie” outsells “Echo.”
Released a few days apart, their comebacks generated a huge buzz. Jin dropped his sophomore album “Echo” on Friday (May 16), which sold 727,211 copies on its release day. The album has sold 731,178 copies in four days.
On the other hand, Baekhyun dropped his 5th mini-album “Essence of Reverie” on Monday, May 19. RIIZE, i-dol (formerly (G)I-DLE), and Kim Jaejoong also released new music on the same day.
Amidst fierce competition, Baekhyun’s album recorded the second-highest sales, only surpassed by RIIZE’s “ODYSSEY” (805,985). “Essence of Reverie” sold a staggering 784,921 copies on its debut day. With this, he achieved the highest 1st-day sales record by a K-soloist, surpassing Jin, G-Dragon, and Jennie. It recorded the seventh-highest 1st-day sales a male K-pop soloist achieved.
Like his previous release, “Hello, World”, this album is also expected to achieve the coveted million-seller status in the first week. It is not the first time Baekhyun has shattered a record held by a BTS member. Last year, his album “Hello, World” surpassed the sales record held by Jimin’s 2nd mini-album “MUSE”.
“Hello, World” sold 893,214 copies on its first day, beating Jimin’s “MUSE”, which recorded 731,114 copies.
His new album “Essence of Reverie” debuted at No. 4 on the Worldwide iTunes Album Chart and topped iTunes charts in several countries. His 5th mini-album contains double title tracks (“Chocolate”, “Elevator”) and B-side songs such as “Lemonade”, “Love Comes Back”, “Black Dream”, and more.
On the other hand, Baekhyun will kick off his world tour “Reverie” with two nights in Seoul on June 7-8. Next, he will head to São Paulo, Santiago, Mexico City, Newark, Rosemont, Sugar Land, and more.
