After making Ahgases year special with group and solo activities, Yugyeom will step away from the spotlight for a year and a half. The 27-year-old K-pop star has announced his military service date. The military enlistment comes after GOT7’s comeback in January and the release of his second solo studio album, Interlunar, in June.

On August 23, his agency AOMG announced that GOT7’s Yugyeom will begin his mandatory military service on September 29, 2025. The agency confirmed via official SNS, “

Yugyeom recently received the final confirmation of acceptance as a ‘Specially Skilled Soldier’ from the Military Manpower Administration.”

Accordingly, Yugyeom will enlist on September 29 to begin basic military training, after which he will fulfill his mandatory service as part of the Army Military Band.

According to the statement, he will join the Army Band after completing basic training. AOMG did not share the schedule or location of his military base and requested fans not to visit him to prevent safety accidents due to crowding on site.

Prior to the news, Yugyeom sent fans a heartfelt handwritten letter, thanking them for their unwavering support over the years.

To our Ahgase, who have been with me for 12 years,

I first want to tell you that I will take care of myself and stay healthy while serving in the military for our country.

I will really come back safely without getting hurt, so Ahgase, you also must stay healthy, eat well, and take good care of yourself.

And whether it’s a full moon, a crescent moon, or a half-moon, whenever you see the moon, please think of me. And if you miss me, listen to my songs and long for me. I will also look at the same moon and think of you all, which will give me the strength to do well!

The year and a half may feel long or short depending on how we spend it, but I’ll make sure to spend my time meaningfully so that it feels short.

I hope Ahgase does the same. I will come back soon with even better music and as an even more grown, improved version of myself!

He joins a growing list of K-pop idols set to enlist in the second half of 2025. Woozi from SEVENTEEN is scheduled to begin service on September 15, with Hoshi enlisting a day later on September 16. Rising drama fame Rowoon is also preparing to enlist in the months ahead. NCT’s Doyoung has also confirmed his enlistment this year. Actor-idol Cha Eun-woo enlisted last month.

Within GOT7, several members have already fulfilled their duty. Jinyoung enlisted in May 2023 and was discharged in November 2024, while Jay B completed public service around the same period. On the other hand, Mark Tuan, Jackson Wang, and BamBam are exempt due to their foreign nationalities. Another GOT7 member Youngjae, is also expected to enlist by the end of 2025.

Despite military duties, GOT7 recently reunited to release their anniversary EP Winter Heptagon in January 2025.

Meanwhile, Yugyeom will complete his military service on March 28, 2027, which also happens to be Jackson Wang’s 33rd birthday.
