Huang Wei Jin, the Taiwanese singer and actor, has issued an apology following accusations of harassment towards the group LE SSERAFIM.
Singers like Huang Wei Jin made appearances on the Chinese Chuseok special program called Red and White Arts Awards, which aired on January 27th. LE SSERAFIM was also invited to the program and performed on the finale stage.
During a food tasting event prior to the performance, Huang Wei Jin made inappropriate sexual harassment remarks towards LE SSERAFIM. Specifically, while they were trying to eat sweet potato balls with a bamboo skewer, Huang Wei-jin made an offensive comment.
After hearing the incident, one of the cast members addressed Hwang Wei Jin, saying, “Wei-jin, I think you made a mistake with your words.” In response, the Taiwanese actor explained that he just wanted to enjoy the same meal as them, he didn’t have any other intention.
After the show aired, viewers and fans started criticizing Huang Wei-jin for his comments. Eventually, on January 28, he posted his own apology. He mentioned that during the broadcast, when Yunjin mentioned eating sweet potato balls, he instinctively wanted to react to make the eating process less awkward. However, he realized his remarks were inappropriate and apologized for his actions.
He went on to say “What I wanted to say in my heart was, ‘I’m happy to be able to share delicious food with my favorite idol.’ It certainly didn’t mean anything else. I would like to apologize to the viewers who were uncomfortable hearing that sentence.”
In other news, LE SSERAFIM is set to release their 3rd mini album on February 19.
