Hwang In Youp, Cho Yi Hyun, and THE BOYZ member Younghoon may come together for the upcoming webtoon adaptation, Romance 101.
As reported by JTBC Entertainment on April 2, Hwang In Youp has been offered the role of male lead Na Yu Yeon and is currently coordinating his schedule.
The drama is based on the webtoon of the same name by author Nam Soo. It was first released on Naver Webtoon in 2017 and became popular in Korea and other overseas markets, including Japan, China, and English-speaking regions.
Because of that popularity, fans have been asking for a live-action adaptation for years. The story was even adapted into a Japanese drama in 2022 before Korea began its own version.
Romance 101 centers on Jung Ba Reum, a college student known for living a very organized and disciplined life. She plans everything in advance and sticks to her routines, but when it comes to dating, she has no experience. As she decides to take on romance for the first time, the story follows her campus life and the emotional changes that come with it.
Actress Cho Yi Hyun has been cast as Jung Ba Reum, as reported by News1. She is expected to show both the character’s well-managed lifestyle and her more awkward, honest side when dealing with love.
Cho debuted in 2017 with Sweet Revenge and rose to fame through dramas like My Country, Hospital Playlist, and School 2021. Her popularity grew after the global success of All of Us Are Dead in 2022. Since then, she has taken on leading roles in projects like The Matchmakers and Head Over Heels. After finishing All of Us Are Dead Season 2, she is moving on to this new drama.
Hwang In Youp, who is expected to play Na Yu Yeon, became widely known through True Beauty. He continued to expand his range in The Sound of Magic, Why Her?, and Family by Choice. He also made a short but noticeable appearance in Dear X. He is continuing to take on new projects back-to-back, with another drama, Dream to You, airing in July.
Another name being discussed for the cast is Younghoon from THE BOYZ. As reported by News1, he has been offered the role of Shin Jae Hyun and is currently in talks.
Shin Jae Hyun is a supporting character who brings a different kind of charm compared to Na Yu Yeon and becomes part of the central love triangle. Younghoon made his acting debut with Love Revolution in 2020 and later appeared in One the Woman and Tale of the Nine Tailed.
Romance 101 is being produced by Moving Pictures Company, which is known for works like Moving, Light Shop, and Mary Kills People.
