HYBE has stirred controversy with its scandalous internal monitoring report.
The report evaluates K-pop idols, ridicules the artists, includes derogatory remarks about their looks, and discusses the negative strategies employed by HYBE to shift public perception.
While HYBE previously made BLINKs furious with their comment on Rosé dating scandals and drug use claims, their remarks on BLACKPINK Lisa’s performance at “Crazy Horse Show” in Paris added fuel to the fire.
The snippet that has angered fans states, “The public image of Lisa has sharply declined due to her appearance in the “Crazy Horse Show” in Paris. She seems to regard the n*dity itself as a challenge or a form of empowerment but appears unable to recognize that simply jumping into a burlesque performance without a contextually relevant presentation on a big stage comes off as quite naive. Additionally, the fact that the members attended the performance as supporters has significantly damaged the team’s image, which is already in a precarious state. It seems that this team has managed to get through this situation because they never originally took on themes of girl power or gender issues. After all, they have always focused on heterosexual relationships more than anything else.”
Lisa made history by becoming the first K-pop idol to perform at the prestigious Crazy Horse Cabaret in Paris, from September 28 to 30, 2023.
The Crazy Horse Cabaret is renowned for its sensual and artistic performances, featuring nude or partially nude female dancers, and erotic dance routines.
At the time, the “New Woman” rapper received significant backlash from netizens last year after the announcement, with many against her Cabaret performance.
Fellow members Jennie, Jisoo and Rosé, as well as Tyga, Austin Butler, Kaia Gerber, Rosalía, and more, showed up to support Lisa.
HYBE CEO has apologized for their remarks in the report, stating that it was data collected from online communities, not the official stance. The author of the report has been fired after the backlash grew. Moreover, Ilgan Sports reported that Bang Si Hyuk was directly involved in the distribution of the report and instructed to add new executives to the list.
On the work front, Lisa has had an eventful year after parting ways with YG Entertainment. She set up her label LLOUD, partnered with RCA Records, and dropped three solo singles (“ROCKSTAR,” “New Woman,” and “MOONLIT FLOOR”). Moreover, she performed at MTV VMAs, the Global Citizen Festival, and Victoria’s Secret’s Fashion Show.
After filming her scenes in HBO’s “The White Lotus” season 3, Lisa is currently working on her solo album in LA.
