A new era begins for i-dle!
Formerly known as (G)I-DLE, the girl group has created a splash with recent rebranding and a special comeback on May 2.
They surprised fans on May 2 by officially rebranding to i-dle, dropping the ‘G’ and parentheses from their original name. (G)I-DLE began their journey with mini-album “I Am” on May, 2018 and will enter a fresh chapter as i-dle with 8th mini-album “We Are”.
On May 5 at midnight, CUBE Entertainment dropped the “i-dentity” trailer for individual members while announcing their comeback album “We Are”.
i-dle has a history of self-produced, genre-defying music, and fans (NEVERLAND) are expecting another bold, experimental sound under the new music.
On May 2, they celebrated their 7th debut anniversary by not just rebranding but also releasing a special album “We Are i-dle”. The album contained an “i-dle version” of their past hits including “Latata,” “Lion,” “DUMDi DUMDi,” “Hwa”, “Senorita,” and more.
Now, this upcoming album “We Are” is extra official as it is their first official comeback after rebranding and renewing their contract with CUBE Entertainment last December.
With their new identity, i-dle will push past gender boundaries, creating bolder, edgier music that knows no limits.
Member Shuhua shared her thoughts on the rebranding, saying,
We didn’t even know the company would put a ‘G’ in front of our name. Since we renewed our contracts, it felt like a new beginning. We also wanted to say goodbye to some parts of the past, a proper farewell. Now it’s the five of us moving forward together.
The Soyeon-led group will make a comeback approximately 10 months after the release of 7th mini-album “I Sway” in July 2024. The album became a million-seller (1,026,973 copies) in the first week, and the title song “Klaxon” was the hit song of the summer.
2024 was a monumental year for i-dle with two successful comebacks, multiple Daesang wins, and a world tour. They began their 3rd world tour “i-DOL”, which continued from August to October 2024. They performed in major cities in Asia, North America, and Oceania as part of the world tour.
Meanwhile, i-dle will release their 8th mini-album “We Are” on major music platforms on May 19 at 6 pm KST.
