Incheon International Airport has announced plans to create a separate entrance exclusively for celebrities.
The ‘celebrity-only’ entrance is being introduced in response to recent events, including disruptions caused by fan gatherings and backlash over Byeon Woo Seok’s excessive security.
Recently, officials from INC Airport sent a letter to entertainment agencies informing them of the VIP entrance, stating, “To minimize situations that may cause crowd gatherings, we have established a new procedure allowing celebrities to use a dedicated entrance/exit at the airport’s departure hall, effective October 28.”
They added, “There have been frequent instances of fans and crowds gathering at the airport during artist arrivals/departures, causing inconvenience and safety concerns for general passengers. We request that you inform your artist’s fanbase to refrain from visiting Incheon Airport during their arrivals/departures.”
The new celebrity-only entrance has sparked debate online. Some say it is unfair special treatment, while others see it as necessary for safety.
Previously, controversy erupted when Byeon Woo Seok’s trip to Hong Kong for a solo fan meeting tour over his security measures, dubbed “emperor’s security.”
It was reported that his bodyguards took extreme measures to control the surroundings, including flashing cameras at general passengers, inspecting business lounge access passes, and restricting entry through the general gate.
To ensure safety and order, Incheon Airport has implemented new measures. The airport shared guidelines with entertainment agencies to minimize celebrity terminal time. Police will control crowds of 300-500 fans, and extra safety measures will be taken for crowds over 500 fans. Additionally, private security firms will face punishment for illegal actions.
