The year-end TV lineup just got a whole lot more exciting!
K-pop singer IU and Kdrama heartthrob Byeon Woo Seok are teaming up for a romance drama, and it’s officially in the running for a coveted year-end broadcast spot on MBC.
On January 8, OSEN reported that the production team behind the new drama “Wife of a 21st Century Prince” is making final preparations for a potential year-end broadcast on MBC. The drama stars Byeon Woo Seok and IU in lead roles, with a script penned by Yoo Ah In.
As per the report, the drama is slated to take over the time slot of Kang Tae Oh and Kim Sejeong’s “The Moon Flows Over the River” in the latter half of this year.
MBC is considering airing “Wife of a 21st Century Prince” as a Friday-Saturday miniseries towards the end of the year, according to OSEN. This time slot has consistently produced successful dramas, despite the overall decline in terrestrial drama programming.
It is worth noting that MBC’s drama lineup for 2025 revealed today did not include “Wife of a 21st Century Prince”.
Broadcasting insiders reveal that the production team is searching for the perfect director to helm the project. After already securing Byeon Woo Seok and IU as leads, they are seeking a seasoned director who can do justice to the star-studded cast. They initially had selected the director but the team decided to hold off on a final decision.
Fans are looking forward to the drama’s year-end broadcast and the chemistry between Byeon Woo Seok and IU.
In a modern-day Korean monarchy, “Wife of a 21st Century Prince” follows Sung Hui Ju (IU), the daughter of a wealthy conglomerate family, who meets Prince I An (Byeon Woo Seok), the second son of the king. Despite their different backgrounds, they share a common feeling of being trapped by their circumstances.
