A person, referred to as Ms. A, who was taken to court for making malicious comments about the 31-year-old singer and actor, has appealed for a lighter sentence.

The Seoul Central District Court’s 16th Criminal Division presided over by Judge Lee Kyung Sun, conducted a final trial for the 39-year-old defendant on November 26. A had been indicted on insult charges on November 15.

During the trial, the prosecution sought a 4-month prison term for the malicious commenter. The defendant requested a lighter sentence, stating that their comments were merely simple symbols and that their mental health condition affects their writing abilities. The court is set to deliver its verdict on December 3.

EDAM Entertainment, IU’s agency, filed a lawsuit against 180 individuals for making malicious comments. The agency identified serious cases involving threats, insults, false information, defamation, and other illegal acts, and filed a criminal complaint. The agency emphasized its commitment to strict punishment, stating that it will not tolerate such behavior.

On the work front, IU will return to TV with her appearance in “When Life Gives You Tangerines” (working title).
