As per an exclusive report by Star-News on August 2, Jennie successfully registered her English name, ‘JENNIE RUBY JANE’, as a trademark last month.

She initially filed an application with the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) in January last year, and after a thorough examination and a two-month opposition period in April, the KIPO officially approved her trademark registration.

It seems the You & Me singer is building a personal brand around ‘JENNIE RUBY JANE’, using it on social media and trademarking it in Korea and the US.

Born Kim Jennie, the K-pop star has a second name, Jennie Ruby Jane, which she acquired while studying abroad in New Zealand as a child. Interestingly, she used this name instead of her stage name ‘Jennie’ when she made her acting debut in the HBO drama The Idol last year.

The 28-year-old K-pop star is in the final stages of debut album production. She was in LA for a while, working on her debut album.

Jennie parted ways with YG Entertainment in August last year, ending her exclusive contract that dated back to her trainee days.

She then took the bold step of launching her own independent label, ‘ODD ATELIER‘, and embarked on a solo journey.  She remains with YG Entertainment only for BLACKPINK group activities, under a separate contract.

Next year, BLACKPINK will resume full-fledged group activities with a comeback and a world tour.
