After playfully teasing fans for years, Jeon Somi has finally dropped the official fandom name, and it’s safe to say no one saw this coming. This was a meaningful announcement, especially for fans who supported her since the “I Am Somi” days.
The 24-year-old K-pop star has announced the official fandom name for over 5 years since her solo debut.
On Thursday, April 24 at midnight (KST), THEBLACKLABEL announced fanclub name through her official social media channels.
Jeon Somi fandom name is “SOMMUMCHI”. The name “SOMIMUNCHI” combines “JEON SOMI (소미)” and “MUNCHI (무치),” representing their constant togetherness. They are as soft as cotton individually, but when united, they become powerful.
Fans are thrilled about the long-awaited announcement, and are leaving comments like
“Oh baby… it’s only took forever”
“Finally we can be labelled”
“We need a comeback”
“I have 6 year old cousin and she just started school, just in case you wanna know how late you are”
“Tell me… I’m not dreaming right?”
In addition, she is launching an official lightstick, which will be out on April 25. So, fans are speculating that a comeback and tour announcement will follow soon.
Fans were furious with THEBLACKLABEL for only giving Somi one comeback a year, feeling it wasted her potential. The recent news has sparked speculation that she renewed her contract with THEBLACKLABEL, this time with better terms.
Her last comeback was the digital single “Ice Cream” starring Park Seo Joon, which was released on August 2. Prior to that, Somi dropped her first solo EP “Game Plan” on August 7, 2023.
She was part of three girl groups I.O.I, Unnies, and Girls Next Door before going solo. The K-pop star signed with THEBLACKLABEL and made solo debut with single album “Birthday” in June 2019.
Meanwhile, Jeon Somi is currently appearing as a fixed cast member in JTBC’s variety show “Street Food Vendor”.
