Jeongyeon is officially stepping into the world of acting, nearly a decade after her debut as a K-pop idol.
According to an exclusive report from YTN on July 22, the TWICE member has been cast in the upcoming film New Soldiers: The Movie, directed by Min Jin Gi. She will take on the role of a nurse in the story, which is set in a military hospital. This marks her first-ever acting role since TWICE’s debut in 2015.
New Soldiers: The Movie is a spin-off of the popular New Soldiers drama series, which began airing in 2022 and ran for three successful seasons. The original series humorously depicted military life within army units, but the movie version shifts the focus to a military hospital, bringing a fresh angle to the franchise.
The script is currently in its final stages, and Jeongyeon is reportedly adjusting her schedule to begin filming in the second half of 2025.
Previously, the 28-year-old K-pop star revealed receiving an offer for cameos in the past; however, she had to opt out of it, due to the agency’s decision and her hiatus.
In a 2023 interview with GQ during promotions for Ready to Be, TWICE assigned acting roles to each member. They picked a police officer for Jeongyeon, which she agreed with. The idol shared that she is interested in action roles involving stunts like jumping off buildings.
She is not the only member of TWICE branching out into acting and film-related projects. Dahyun made big screen debut last year in a remake of You Are the Apple of My Eye and will also star in the upcoming series Love Me.
In related news, Jihyo, Jeongyeon, and Chaeyoung contributed to the soundtrack of Netflix’s animated film KPop: Demon Hunters with the song TAKEDOWN, which entered HOT 100.
TWICE is currently in the middle of their sixth world tour and is scheduled to perform as headliners at Lollapalooza Chicago.
