BLACKPINK Jisoo and Seo In Guk’s romantic comedy “Boyfriend on Demand” (working title) has become one of the most awaited releases.
Filming began last year, but the release date was reportedly pushed to 2026. This is because it wasn’t included in Netflix’s 2025 content lineup, which was announced in February.
Fans won’t have to wait a year in the latest developments as it will likely premiere in October. Particularly, BLINKs are excited as they enjoyed her recent acting comeback “Newtopia” and now looking forward to the new one. The 8-episode zombie comedy “Newtopia” starring Jisoo and Park Jeong Min wrapped on March 21.
“Boyfriend on Demand” Release Date
It is worth noting that no official announcement has been made regarding the “Boyfriend on Demand” release date.
On April 4, a Naver Blog post revealed that four miniature haute couture dresses were rented for the two actresses Jisoo and Yoo In Na, with a cryptic message: “See you in October, Netflix”. Fans are also excited that the BLACKPINK star will reunite with her “Snowdrop” co-star Yoo In Na in the upcoming drama.
“Boyfriend on Demand” has changed its initial plans of airing on MBC and will now stream globally on Netflix in October. The cast will explore the virtual dating world in a 10-episode series.
Plot
Netflix describes “Boyfriend on Demand” as a romantic comedy about Seo Mi Rae, a webtoon producer, who tries virtual dating and experiences romance through a subscription-based service.
Cast and Characters
Jisoo plays Seo Mi Rae, a webtoon producer who has given up on love in her busy real life. She escapes into a virtual world using the “Monthly Boyfriend” device, where she experiences strong feelings and romances with perfect men.
Through Mi Rae’s story, the “earthquake” singer portrays a relatable tale for modern audiences. Notably, she ventures into a romantic comedy for the first time, following her dramatic roles in “Newtopia” and “Snowdrop”.
Seo In Guk takes on the role of Park Kyung Nam, a webtoon PD who works alongside Seo Mi Rae (Jisoo). While he is awkward around Mi-rae, his colleagues appreciate his work ethic. However, there’s more to Kyung-nam than meets the eye as he harbors a secret.
In addition, Seo Kang Joon and Lee Soo Hyuk are also scheduled to make a cameo in Netflix’s “Boyfriend on Demand”.
Creative Team
“Boyfriend on Demand” is directed by Kim Jung Sik, who has previously helmed “No Gain No Love”, “Strong Girl Nam-Soon”, “Work Later, Drink Now”, and more.
Attention is focused on “Boyfriend on De”, a romantic comedy directed by Kim Jung Sik and starring a talented cast. The production team and actors have come together to create a show that promises to bring a fresh take on love, and it will be available exclusively on Netflix, starting in October.
