On May 29, a student of Shinhan University shared that the technical mishap during NMIXX’s university festival was planned. It led many to believe that it might have been a subtle dig at K-pop groups, who are currently being criticized for their live singing skills.

On May 30, JYP Entertainment’s SQU4D (Division 4) released an official statement stating, “The equipment malfunction on stage during NMIXX’s performance at the Shinhan University festival was a pre-planned event meant to heighten the mood on site,” and added, “This information was shared with the event’s organizers in advance, with an edited MR being used.”

The agency admitted that NMIXX members were not made aware of it, “To make the event appear natural, we did not share this information with NMIXX members in advance.”

The agency apologized saying that they regret not considering the confusion and inconvenience that audiences and fans may experience due to this event, and they will take steps to prevent such incidents from happening again.

At the Shinhan University Festival, NMIXX members also apologized to the attendees for the inconvenience caused due to the technical glitch.
