Kang Hoon and Kim Hye Jun are rumored to star together in a brand-new rom-com, My Favorite Employee (working title).
According to an exclusive report by Daily Sports on July 16, both actors have officially signed on for the upcoming tvN drama. It is set to begin filming in the second half of this year and is expected to air sometime next year.
My Favorite Employee is based on the popular webtoon My Oppa is an Idol, and is described as a lighthearted romantic comedy with an office twist.
The story follows Nam Da Reum, who finds herself working at a company headed by Lee Chan, an ex-idol who has reinvented himself as a charismatic CEO. Once Nam Da Reum joins the company, he crosses paths with the company’s president, Kang Ha Gi.
Kang Hoon will portray Kang Ha Gi, the company president. On the outside, Kang appears cold, strict, and intimidating, but beneath his tough exterior is someone with a warmer heart than anyone else.
Having built a successful startup through hard work and determination, Kang Ha Gi is admired and respected by many, but only a few know about his softer side.
Meanwhile, Kim Hye Jun will play Nam Da Reum, an ordinary worker whose life takes an unexpected turn when he joins the company owned by the idol she has long admired. The story promises plenty of sweet and awkward moments as Nam Da Reum adjusts to working alongside the person he has been a fan of for years.
Kang Hoon, who debuted in 2014, has steadily made his mark in the romance genre through popular dramas such as The Red Sleeve, Twenty Five Twenty One, and Dear Hyeri.
Debuted in 2015, Kim Hye Jun has impressed viewers with her roles in genre-heavy projects like Kingdom and the recent action thriller A Shop For Killers.
She is also gearing up for her next big appearances in Netflix’s superhero series Cashero and the second season of A Shop For Killers. With My Favorite Employee, audiences are looking forward to seeing her step away from dark, intense characters and star in a bright, romantic comedy.
With filming set to start later this year and a tvN broadcast planned for 2026, excitement is already growing around the office comedy. Fans can look forward to the on-screen chemistry between Kang Hoon and Kim Hye Jun as they bring this webtoon-based office romance to life.
