Kep1er, the popular girl group formed through the 2021 reality show Girls Planet 999, is allegedly disbanding despite earlier rumors of a contract extension.
On May 16, there were reports that seven members of Kep1er had reportedly signed contract extensions except Yeseo and Mashiro.
In the latest development, Kep1er’s contract extension talks have been canceled. According to multiple sources, the group members have decided not to renew their contract after careful consideration and discussions.
Earlier, there were plans to keep Kep1er going as a 7-member group, without Kang Yeseo and Mashiro. The remaining members would have continued together, but ultimately, they decided not to extend their contract and will now go their separate ways.
Top executives, including those from CJ ENM, explored various options for continuing Kep1er’s activities, and contract renewal was on the table.
However, disagreements over the renewal terms couldn’t be resolved, ultimately leading to a breakdown in negotiations and no contract extension.
CJ ENM has chosen not to comment on the situation, stating that, “We are currently discussing with the members and their respective agencies regarding contract renewal.”
Meanwhile, Kep1er is moving forward with their musical plans, and their highly anticipated first full-length album, Kep1going On, is set to drop on June 3rd.
