Kim Hye Yoon is set to take on the lead role in the Korean drama adaptation of The Miracles of the Namiya General Store.
On February 10, SPOTV News reported that the acclaimed novel by Japanese author Keigo Higashino is being adapted into a Korean drama, with Kim Hye Yoon confirmed to be in talks for the female lead. The project is currently in the early stages of production.
The Korean remake is expected to be produced as a drama series consisting of approximately 10 episodes. Casting for the remaining roles is still ongoing, and discussions are underway for a global OTT release. Earlier reports stated that Lee Chae Min is also considering a leading role, while Moon Sang Min is reviewing an offer for a special appearance.
The Miracles of the Namiya General Store tells the story of three young thieves who hide inside an abandoned general store. While there, they discover letters sent decades earlier by people seeking advice. As the thieves respond to the letters, a mysterious link forms between the past and the present.
The novel was a major bestseller in Korea and remained popular for years. It was previously adapted into films in both Japan and China in 2017. The Japanese version starred Ryosuke Yamada and Toshiyuki Nishida, while the Chinese adaptation featured Jackie Chan as the shop owner.
In Korea, the work was also adapted into a stage play that premiered in 2018. At the time of its peak popularity, the book’s cover design sparked controversy due to the rise of similar “copycat” covers in the publishing market.
Kim Hye Yoon rose to popularity with leading roles in Extraordinary You, Snowdrop, and Lovely Runner. She is currently starring in the SBS drama No Tail To Tell alongside Lomon, playing the role of Eun Ho.
She is also set to appear in the drama Good Partner 2 later this year, where she will work alongside Jang Na Ra as her new partner. Her upcoming film, Salmokji: Whispering Water, with Lee Jong Won, will hit cinemas on April 8.
Lee Chae Min has been gaining attention through recent projects such as Crash Course in Romance, Hierarchy, and Bon Appétit, Your Majesty. Moon Sang Min is also reported to be reviewing an offer for a special appearance. He has steadily built his career through dramas such as Under the Queen’s Umbrella and Wedding Impossible. His upcoming film, Pavane, is scheduled to arrive on Netflix on February 20, 2026.
