Kim Jung Hyun has publicly apologized to Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun at the 2024 KBS Drama Awards. The apology comes years after a highly publicized controversy surrounding his 2018 drama “The Time”.
Seohyun and Kim Jung Hyun’s drama “The Time” was surrounded by quite a bit of controversy. During a promotional event, fans noticed that Kim seemed distant from the Girls’ Generation member.
At first, his agency claimed that this behavior was part of his “method acting.” Rumors began to swirl when he suddenly dropped out of the drama, saying it was due to health issues.
Things took a turn in 2021 when Kim’s agency turned against him, revealing that his behavior was linked to personal issues with a woman. After the agency’s statement, his dating rumors with actress Seo Ye Ji were back in the spotlight.
The staff of the drama later mentioned that his departure significantly affected the production. With just four episodes left to shoot, the writer struggled to rewrite the script.
Kim’s character was supposed to be deeply in love with Seohyun’s character, but he refused to film any intimate scenes with her, which created a lot of tension and even brought Seohyun to tears.
As per reports, his ex-girlfriend Seo Ye Ji pressured him to avoid intimate scenes with Seohyun.
On December 31, Kim Jung Hyun won an award for his role in “Iron Family” at the 2024 KBS Drama Awards 2024. During his acceptance speech, he took everyone by surprise by apologizing to Seohyun for his past behavior.
The event was not live broadcast due to the Jeju Air tragedy, therefore, no footage of his apology is available yet.
Notably, his apology did not sit well with K-drama fans, who accused him of doing it for show and putting Seohyun in a difficult position. The idol-turned-actress was the MC at the award ceremony.
Many fans believe that he should have instead apologized to Seohyun privately, rather than using the public platform to clear his own name.
