Amidst the controversy surrounding the webtoon adaptation of “Get Schooled,” Kim Nam Gil has personally denied his involvement in the project.
The “Fiery Priest” actor shared, “It is true that my agency has received an offer from “Get Schooled.” To respect the ones who offer me, I have to personally review the offer and decide whether I want to accept or decline, but it is only possible if I have time to discuss it. I have no time nor power to think about anything else aside from “The Fiery Priest” now.”
Kim Nam Gil added, “My co-stars and the production team are currently working our best in the last phase of filming to repay you who have been waiting for <The Fiery Priest> for so long.”
He continued, “I am doing my best to not disappoint all of you who have been loving all my projects. I hope that you trust me, spend every weekend of the winter laughing with “The Fiery Priest,” stay healthy & be happy.”
On November 7, Star News reported that Kim Nam Gil is in talks to star in “Get Schooled,” a drama adapting the webtoon about teachers struggling to maintain authority. His agency confirmed that he is positively considering the role of Na Hwa Jin, an Educational Protection Agency supervisor.
The actor withdraws from the drama adaptation due to concerns over racial discrimination, feminist issues, and corporal punishment controversies surrounding the webtoon.
On another note, Kim Nam-gil stars next in SBS’s “The Fiery Priest 2,” premiering on November 8. He is also set to appear in Netflix’s action thriller “Trigger,” releasing soon.
