JTBC’s upcoming drama series, ‘Virtuous Sales’, is a bold adaptation of the British hit ‘Brief Encounters’, set in 1992 Korea. The show follows four courageous women as they take on the unconventional task of selling adult products door-to-door, defying societal norms and expectations.
Set in a time when the word ‘sex’ was taboo, Virtuous Sales tells the inspiring story of four trailblazing women who carved out a space for themselves in the unlikely field of adult product sales.
It is a Korean adaptation of the acclaimed British series Brief Encounters, which originally aired on ITV in 2016.
Kim So-yeon plays Han Jung Sook, a housewife who’s been hiding her spark. Despite her earlier glory as a beauty pageant winner and her loving marriage, she’s felt stuck in her mundane routine. However, when money gets tight, she discovers a surprising knack for selling adult products door-to-door, and her inner go-getter is unleashed.
In Virtuous Sales, Kim Do Hyun, portrayed by Yeon Woo Jin, is a Korean police officer with a unique background. Despite his successful career in the United States, he was unexpectedly transferred to the Geumje Police Station in Seoul.
Kim Sung Ryung plays the multifaceted character Oh Geum Hee. Geum Hee, a university graduate, finds herself in Geumje, her husband’s hometown due to an arranged marriage. Despite her background, she ventures into the world of adult product sales to support Han Jung Sook.
Kim Sun Young portrays Seo Young Bok, a devoted mother of 4 children. Despite appearing to have a happy family life with a loving husband, Young Bok’s reality is far from ideal as her family of six shares a cramped single room. Motivated by the desire to improve her children’s living conditions, Young-bok ventures into door-to-door sales.
Lastly, Lee Se Hee plays Joo Ri, a single mother managing her beauty salon, exudes confidence as she cleverly handles unwelcome attention from men with her cheerful demeanor and witty comebacks. Initially viewing door-to-door sales as a fun diversion from her routine, Joo Ri transforms into a bold and assertive individual.
