Actor Lee Ji Hoon has addressed reports that police were called to his home over an alleged assault on his wife. The 40-year-old Kdrama actor stated through his agency that no violence took place.
The situation came to light weeks after the incident, which occurred on July 24 at Lee’s residence in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province. Police confirmed they received a call to the 112 emergency line that afternoon. It reported that a man in his 40s had assaulted his wife during a dispute. That man was later identified as Lee Ji Hoon.
According to authorities, the couple began arguing, and Lee attempted to leave the house. His wife allegedly tried to stop him, and the confrontation escalated into a brief physical struggle.
Officers questioned Lee on suspicion of assault but ultimately treated the matter as a domestic violence case rather than a criminal offense, since his wife made it clear she did not want to press charges. Under Korean law, certain assault cases require the victim’s consent for prosecution, meaning police cannot proceed without that decision.
A police spokesperson confirmed action was taken following the report but declined to share specifics, citing the case’s domestic nature.
On August 14, Lee’s agency, Y1 Entertainment, publicly acknowledged that he was the actor mentioned in earlier media coverage, which had described the suspect as a “40-something actor” from a blockbuster film with more than 10 million viewers.
The agency firmly denied any physical violence, explaining, “During a marital argument, the police were dispatched due to the spouse’s report, but after investigating the situation, it was determined that there was no serious issue.”
They also noted that Lee and his wife have since reconciled and agreed to settle the matter privately. “There was no assault, and the spouse has clearly stated there is no intention to press charges, so the case is now in the process of being closed,” the statement read. The company issued an apology for causing concern, adding that the couple is reflecting on the events.
Lee Ji Hoon made his acting debut in 2003 through KBS’s 20th open talent program and has since built a varied career across film and television.
His movie credits include “The Roundup: No Way Out” and “The Roundup: Punishment”, both box office hits, along with “The Merciless”, “The Faceless Boss”, and “Spring Day.”
On the small screen, he has appeared in popular dramas such as “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo”, the “Hospital Playlist” series, “A Killer Paradox”, and more.
