Audiences now know when Typhoon Family will hit screens, as tvN confirmed the drama’s premiere date and dropped its first poster.
Starring 2PM’s Lee Junho and actress Kim Min Ha, Typhoon Family is set to premiere on Saturday, October 11, at 9:20 p.m. KST, filling the weekend slot after Bon Appétit, Your Majesty.
Set during the turbulent period of the 1997 IMF financial crisis, Typhoon Family tells the story of Kang Tae Poong, played by Lee Junho, a carefree youth who suddenly finds his life turned upside down.
Raised in comfort and wealth thanks to his father’s business, Kang never experienced real hardship and lived as a symbol of the so-called “Orange Tribe” of Apgujeong, a generation of fashionable and privileged young people of the era.
However, his carefree days come to an abrupt halt when the IMF crisis devastates South Korea. He was thrust into the role of president of Typhoon Trading Company, a business on the brink of collapse with no employees, no capital, and nothing to sell.
Joining him is Oh Mi Seon, portrayed by Pachinko fame Kim Min Ha, a diligent bookkeeper and the eldest daughter of her family who dreams of becoming a career woman.
The first promotional poster, released on September 8, features Lee Jun Ho. It shows Lee styled in true late ’90s fashion, with distinctive bridge hair and bold attire, leaning out of a car window.
The drama is helmed by director Lee Na Jeong, best known for Fight for My Way and Mine, with a script penned by Jang Hyun Sook. Production is being handled by Imaginus, Studio PIC, and Tree Studio in collaboration with Studio Dragon. The drama also stars Sung Dong Il and Kim Ji Young as Tae-poong’s parents, Kim Min Seok as his best friend Wang Nam Mo, and Mu Jin Sung as his rival Pyo Hyeon Jun.
Meanwhile, Typhoon Family will air every Saturday and Sunday on tvN and will be available on TVING for streaming.
