Lee Si Young has shared the news that she’s expecting her second child, just four months after finalizing her divorce.
On July 8, the 43-year-old actress confirmed her pregnancy through her agency and a heartfelt message to fans. She made the decision to undergo an embryo transfer around the time her marriage legally ended. While her ex-husband initially opposed the idea, he eventually chose to respect her wishes.
On Instagram, Lee Si Young reflected on the birth of her first child, saying, “Eight years ago, when I had Jung Yoon, who is now the most precious being in my life, I was unmarried and filming a drama at the same time.”
She added that looking back at that time, she sometimes regretted letting worries overshadow such a special moment. “I promised myself that if I were to have another child, I wouldn’t repeat those regrets,” she wrote.
During their marriage, the couple tried for a second baby through IVF. However, years passed without implanting the embryos, and eventually, their relationship came to an end.
“As all legal matters were being finalized, coincidentally, the five-year embryo cryopreservation period was coming to an end, and the time came for me to make a decision. Right before the disposal date, I personally decided to have the embryo implanted” Lee Si Young explained.
She acknowledged that her ex-husband did not agree at first but made it clear that she fully owns her choice. “Although the other party did not agree, I intend to fully bear the weight of this decision I have made. I have always wanted a child, and I could not bear to discard the embryo as the storage period was ending.”
She concluded her message by saying she feels more grateful and peaceful than ever, and ready to embrace this new life as a meaningful blessing.
Lee’s decision has divided public opinion, since her ex-husband did not agree to it, raising legal questions as well. Right now, the law does not clearly require both partners’ consent for creating an embryo or for implanting it later.
Lee Si Young married a food service CEO in September 2017 and welcomed her first child in January 2018. After eight years together, the couple officially divorced earlier this year. Now, just four months later, she begins a new chapter as she prepares to welcome her second baby.
On the work front, Lee Si Young is currently appearing in ENA’s drama, Salon de Holmes, set to conclude on July 15, 2025.
