MBC’s year-end festivities are likely to be canceled following the devastating Jeju Air plane crash.
MBC has canceled its year-end “Entertainment Awards” ceremony following the tragic plane crash at Muan Airport. The fate of its other award shows, including the “Drama Awards” and “Gayo Daejejeon”, remains uncertain and may not air as scheduled.
MBC announced, “Due to the emergency news special broadcast, tonight’s (December 29) ‘2024 MBC Entertainment Awards’ scheduled for 8:30 PM has been canceled. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.”
The MBC Entertainment Awards ceremony will still take place as planned, but the broadcast of the event is uncertain. The red carpet event was previously canceled, and now the live broadcast of the awards ceremony is also up in the air. No decision has been made yet on whether it will be recorded or aired.
MBC is reconsidering its year-end schedule, with the Drama Awards and Gayo Daejejeon now potentially on the chopping block. An MBC official revealed that discussions are underway to decide whether to proceed with the 2024 MBC Drama Awards on December 30 and the 2024 MBC Gayo Daejejeon on December 31.
Following the cancellation of the Entertainment Awards, it’s likely that the other two events will also be scrapped to be replaced with special news coverage instead.
