Group History and Formation
BINI, an eight-member Filipino girl group, was formed by ABS-CBN’s Star Hunt Academy (SHA). The group’s formation was inspired by the popularity of K-pop and the belief in the world-class talent of Filipino artists.
In 2018, ABS-CBN conducted a nationwide audition, “Star Hunt: The Kapamilya Grand Audition,” to discover new talents. From this pool, 250 aspirants were selected for a 5-day boot camp, which was later narrowed down to 50. Additional talents were scouted and recruited from reality shows, forming the initial 12-member female Star Hunt Academy trainee group.
Introduced in August 2019, the trainees underwent rigorous training to develop their singing and dancing skills. The group was eventually streamlined to eight members: Jhoanna, Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, and Sheena.
Debut
BINI’s musical journey began with a fresh take on the classic Filipino song, “Da Coconut Nut.” This electro-pop remake was born from a collaboration between MU Doctor Academy and VO3E, a Korean music production group.
The group’s introduction to the music scene started with the release of the “Da Coconut Nut” lyric video on November 6, 2020, followed by the official music video on November 20.
They signed with Star Magic in December 2020 and announced their debut in 2021. BINI finally debuted as ABS-CBN Entertainment’s idol group with debut single “Born to Win” on June 11, 2021, after 3 years of training.
They dropped their sophomore album “Feel Good” in September 2022 followed by 1st EP “Talaarawan” in March.
