After a six-month hiatus following its final broadcast in December 2024, MBC Every1’s long-running variety show “Weekly Idol” is set to return with a major transformation.
The program has been a staple in K-pop entertainment since its debut in 2011. It will relaunch with a fresh format and a brand-new hosting duo: MONSTA X’s Minhyuk and CRAVITY’s Hyeongjun.
Minhyuk has previously appeared on “Weekly Idol” multiple times as a guest. His experience as an idol and his ability to create a lively atmosphere make him a perfect fit for the hosting role.
Hyeongjun is a rising star in the fourth-generation K-pop scene. The CRAVITY member brings youthful energy and a fresh perspective. His playful personality and deep understanding of idol culture are expected to add a new dynamic to the show.
Previously, “Weekly Idol” was hosted by
- Jung Hyung Don, Defconn, Heechul, Hani
- Lee Sang Min, Yoo Se Yoon, Kim Shin Young
- Jo Se Ho, Nam Chang Hee, Hwang Kwang Hee, Eunhyuk
- Seo Eunkwang, Mijoo
- Boom, Lee Jang Jun
It is expected that Minhyuk and Heongjun will live up to the legacy of past MCs.
For over a decade, “Weekly Idol” has served as the ultimate variety show introduction for idols across Korea. The program’s genius lies in its ability to present idols in refreshingly unguarded moments through iconic segments like Random Play Dance and 2x Speed Dance.
The revamped “Weekly Idol” will feature music-centered content that strengthens communication between idols and fans. The show will maintain its existing strengths while providing a platform for direct interaction through music.
MONSTA X’s Minhyuk and CRAVITY’s Hyeongjun will serve as the new MCs. The first episode is set to air in June on MBC M and MBC every1.
