After a lengthy wait, the drama ‘Dear.M’ starring NCT’s Jaehyun and Park Hye Soo is finally set to premiere in April.
NCT fans were left disappointed when KBS cancelled the K-drama ‘Dear. M’, which was set to be Jaehyun’s acting debut. He then made his acting debut in the mystery thriller movie “You Will Die in Six Hours” last year.
The excitement was building around its premiere, however, the drama was abruptly canceled just before its scheduled release.
On the bright side, ‘Dear. M’ is getting a second chance 4 years after its initial cancellation. It is quite exciting for NCT fans as they will get to see Jaehyun, who is currently enlisted in the military.
According to SPOTV News on March 10, KBS has slated ‘Dear. M’ to air on KBS JOY. Episodes will broadcast Mondays and Tuesdays at 9:50 PM, starting from April 14.
‘Dear. M’ is a raw and unfiltered youth romance drama that follows a mysterious search for ‘M’. ‘M’ is an anonymous author of a scandalous post that shook Seoyeong University to its core. The talented young cast includes Park Hye Soo, NCT’s Jaehyun, Roh Jeong Eui, Bae Hyun Sung, and Lee Jin Hyuk.
Initially set to premiere in 2021, ‘Dear.M’ had completed filming by February 26, 2021. However, its broadcast was abruptly canceled due to allegations of school violence against Park Hye Soo. KBS tried to reschedule the drama multiple times, however, the broadcast was put on hold until now as the school bullying controversy surrounding Park Hye Soo remained unresolved.
Given that ‘Dear.M’ is a youth drama, its cancellation was especially disappointing for fans, as it marked the acting debut for several cast members, including Jaehyun.
Although KBS eventually released the drama on Japan’s U-NEXT streaming platform in June 2022, it did not receive the expected response. Fans continued to wait for its long-overdue release in Korea.
It seemed like ‘Dear.M’ was destined to remain unaired, but KBS never fully gave up on the idea. There were rumors of a possible re-release in January 2024. Then, Park Hye Soo made a successful comeback with the movie ‘The Dream Songs’, which opened the door for KBS to reconsider airing ‘Dear.M’.
KBS ultimately decided to air ‘Dear.M’ on its cable channel, KBS JOY, rather than the main channel. It was due to the ongoing legal issues surrounding Park Hye Soo and concerns that the drama’s outdated content might not resonate with viewers. The decision to air it on a cable channel may help minimize potential risks.
Critics are looking forward to seeing how audiences will react to the drama’s release after a four-year delay.
