Netflix has officially confirmed the production of its latest original K-drama series, Take Charge of My Heart. This romantic comedy brings together Kim Young Kwang and Chae Soo Bin in the lead roles. This marks both actors’ return to the rom-com genre after a considerable break.

The drama is based on a popular Naver web novel of the same name and will be helmed by director Park Soo Won. He is known for his sharp and witty direction in hit dramas like Work Later, Drink Now 2 and Birthcare Center. The screenplay is written by rising writer Song Yoo Chae, who will be adapting the web novel into an emotionally charged narrative.

Plot Summary

Take Charge of My Heart follows Baek Ho Rang (Kim Young Kwang), a third-generation chaebol managing a luxury resort owned by Korea’s top conglomerate. Behind his flawless image lies a secret, he lives with an artificial heart that depends on recharging to function.

Amid corporate rivalry, he meets Na Bo Bae, a drama writer with electric powers. Struck by lightning as a child, she has been unable to touch others without shocking them, until she encounters Ho Rang, who is mysteriously unaffected by her electricity. Discovering she can recharge his heart, the two form a contract relationship that soon turns into something more.

Cast and Characters

Kim Young Kwang as Baek Ho Rang

Kim Young Kwang portrays Baek Ho Rang, a sharp and composed resort CEO whose life secretly depends on an artificial heart that needs regular recharging. Despite his professional success, his condition keeps him emotionally guarded.

Kim is returning to romantic comedy after his recent action-thriller Trigger, and fans are eager to see his softer side again in Take Charge of My Heart.

He has previously impressed viewers with his heartfelt performance in the film On Your Wedding Day and the melodrama Call It Love.

Chae Soo Bin as Na Bo Bae

Chae Soo Bin takes on the role of Na Bo-bae, a screenwriter who has lived with electrical powers ever since a childhood lightning strike. Her condition prevents her from forming close physical relationships until she meets Ho Rang, the only person immune to her shocks.

Chae Soo Bin rose to global fame with her appearance in the 2024 drama When The Phone Rings, and the newly released webtoon-based movie, Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy.

In addition, she has previously starred in The Fabulous and Rookie Cops as well as the films Sweet and Sour, Hijacking, and more.

Netflix has not yet announced an official release date for Take Charge of My Heart, but the series is expected to launch globally sometime later this year or early next year.
