A new spin-off group from Mnet’s survival show Boys II Planet is set to launch after the success of ALPHA DRIVE ONE. As reported by JoyNews on January 26, former contestants Chuei Liyu (Korean name: Choi Lip Woo), Kang Woojin, and Jang Haneum have recently agreed to debut together as part of a new project group.

The upcoming spin-off group will be produced by CJ ENM, while FNC Entertainment will take charge of overall management and promotions. The group’s official name, total number of members, and debut date have not yet been finalized.

The group will be centered on three confirmed members. Choi Lipwoo, also known as Chuei Liyu, is a 22-year-old Taiwanese trainee under FNC Entertainment. Kang Woojin is an 18-year-old South Korean individual trainee who appeared on the program without agency backing. Jang Haneum is a 21-year-old South Korean soloist from ES Nation who also participated in the show.

This new unit will become part of the growing Boys II Planet ecosystem, which will soon feature three teams promoting at the same time. The first is ALPHA DRIVE ONE, the final eight-member group formed through the show’s finale. ALPHA DRIVE ONE debuted to strong results and quickly swept top spots on major terrestrial music shows. ALD1’s first mini-album, Euphoria, sold 1.4 million copies in the first week, one of the highest K-pop debut album sales.

The second team is MODYSSEY, a seven-member group created through the spin-off program Planet C: Home Race, which focused on eliminated contestants. Like this new group, it will also be managed by CJ ENM. With the addition of the new spin-off group led by Choi Lipwoo, Kang Woojin, and Jang Haneum, the franchise will officially have three active groups.

This approach is not new for Mnet survival programs. During Produce 101 Season 1, I.O.I and I.B.I promoted simultaneously. In Produce 101 Season 2, Wanna One debuted alongside project groups JBJ and Rainz. More recently, ZEROBASEONE and EVNNE were promoted at the same time following the conclusion of Boys Planet Season 1. The strategy has proven effective in maintaining momentum after the main show ends.

Notably, the three members did not make the final debut lineup during the 2025 season of Boys II Planet. Choi Lipwoo performed in the final episode during the “Brat Attitude” stage. Kang Woojin appeared in the “Never Been 2 Heaven” stage andJang Haneum advanced through the program as a trainee representing ES Nation.

Meanwhile, Yoo Kangmin, who appeared on the show and is currently active as a member of VERIVERY, has already clarified that he will not be joining the new spin-off group.

With Alpha Drive One already achieving notable success, attention is now focused on the newly launched spin-off group.
