Newly released CCTV footage has shed more light on the recent drunk driving incident involving BTS member SUGA.
On August 13, new CCTV footage shows the 31-year-old rapper falling on the sidewalk and being approached by the police.
On August 6, he was probed by police for riding an electric scooter while intoxicated in the Yongsan District of central Seoul, close to his residence. He was found unconscious in Hannam-dong with a blood alcohol level of 0.227%, the highest ever recorded for a celebrity.
In the initial statements released by SUGA and BIGHIT MUSIC, it was claimed that he fell while attempting to park the scooter in front of his house. The latest CCTV footage contradicts the initial claim as he was seen falling on the sidewalk away from his home.
The new CCTV footage was revealed by the reputable Korean media outlet, Yonhap News.
BIGHIT MUSIC, SUGA’s agency, is also under fire for allegedly downplaying the incident. He will be questioned by police about his alcohol consumption and the circumstances surrounding the case. Authorities are also taking steps to revoke his driver’s license.
Since his scooter did not meet the legal standards of a Personal Mobility device, he will be subject to the same penalties as drunk driving a car.
Fans have been criticizing the Haegeum rapper and BIGHIT MUSIC and many send wreaths to HYBE HQ, demanding his withdrawal from the group.
Currently, serving his mandatory military service as a social service agent, SUGA’s schedule allows him to return home daily, with his service set to end in June next year.
