Brazilian drag superstar Pabllo Vittar is joining forces with K-pop girl group NMIXX for their first-ever collaboration, a cross-cultural single titled “Mexe.” The track blends Brazilian funk’s infectious energy with the experimental style that has become NMIXX’s signature.
On August 8, JYP Entertainment shared a teaser for this groundbreaking collaboration on all social media platforms. NMIXX and Pabllo Vittar will drop their upcoming single, “Mexe,” on August 22 at 9 a.m. KST.
Pabllo Vittar, born Phabullo Rodrigues da Silva, has risen to global fame as one of Brazil’s most influential pop artists. She first gained attention with her 2017 hit “K.O.” and went on to become Spotify’s most-streamed Brazilian artist in 2019.
Known for her powerful voice, bold fashion, and unapologetic advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community, Vittar has built an international fanbase through collaborations with stars like Major Lazer, Charli XCX, and Anitta.
Also a passionate K-pop fan, she has long admired groups such as BLACKPINK, TWICE, and LE SSERAFIM, with NMIXX’s Lily being her personal favorite.
NMIXX, formed by JYP Entertainment in 2022, consists of members Lily, Haewon, Sullyoon, Bae, Jiwoo, and Kyujin. The group is known for their “MIXX POP” concept, seamlessly blending contrasting genres in a single track.
Since their debut with “O.O,” they have incorporated influences ranging from hip-hop and jazz to Latin and electronic music, showcased in their 2024 EP “Fe3O4: BREAK.”
The idea for “Mexe” began when NMIXX publicly showed their fondness for Vittar. This prompted the Brazilian singer to reach out to JYP Entertainment. After the confirmation, she traveled to Korea for recording sessions in JYP’s studio.
The track is performed in both English and Portuguese, with NMIXX members even singing in Portuguese for the first time. It’s Y2K-inspired music video features choreography by Jéssi Muller and Pedro Reis, with styling by Victor Miranda.
“Mexe” marks the first time a drag queen has collaborated with a K-pop group. This breaks new ground in an industry often seen as conservative. Vittar acknowledged the significance, saying, “Korea is quite conservative, and this is a big group from a big company working with a queer artist. I thought, my God, we’re going to shock Korea!”
Meanwhile, NMIXX and Pabllo Vittar collaboration, “Mexe,” will hit music platforms on August 22 (KST).
