The older sister of NewJeans’ member Danielle, Olivia has been accused of borrowing elements from Isaac Dunbar’s “Onion Boy” without proper credit.

On February 24, her agency MPLIFY acknowledged the allegations and apologized to fans in an official statement. The statement reads, “Olivia Marsh released her first album ‘Meanwhile’ on February 13. After the release, controversy arose that the double title track ‘Backseat’ bore similarities to Isaac Dunbar’s ‘Onion Boy’. Our company directly compared the two songs and acknowledged that Isaac Dunbar’s claims were valid.

We have reached a mutually agreeable settlement with Isaac Dunbar, and are working on negotiating composition shares, credit registration, and other necessary steps to ensure the rights of the original artist are protected. This reflects our shared commitment to creativity and fair artistic practices.

We will continue to prioritize transparency and respect for all creators. We take this incident as a lesson and will thoroughly review our internal systems to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

Once again, we sincerely apologize to Isaac Dunbar and to the fans who were disappointed by this incident.”

Olivia Marsh released her debut mini-album, “Meanwhile”, on February 13, containing 5 self-written and composed tracks:

  1. “STRATEGY”
  2. “BACKSEAT”
  3. “WATERWORKS”
  4. “42”
  5. “PINA COLADA”

This mini-album explores themes of self-discovery, personal growth, and passion.

Meanwhile, the Korean-Australian singer Olivia Marsh made her solo debut with the single “42” in October 2024 after signing with the label MPLIFY.
