Park Eun Bin and Yang Se Jong have been approached to headline the remake of the 2011 hit film Spellbound, which originally starred Son Ye Jin and Lee Min Ki.
My Daily reported on August 18 that Park Eun-bin has accepted the role of Cheon Yeo Ri, the CEO and heiress of a hotel conglomerate who can see ghosts. Despite her glamorous and privileged life, her nights are haunted by vengeful spirits.
Then, she crosses paths with a passionate prosecutor who is determined to expose societal wrongs, from unchecked privilege to dating violence and unsolved murders.
Park Eun-bin, who earlier this year starred in the Disney+ Hyperknife, is returning to the romantic comedy genre after recent performances in Extraordinary Attorney Woo, and Castaway Diva. In the future, she will star in the second season of Extraordinary Attorney Woo and Netflix’s The Wonderfools with Cha Eunwoo.
Expectations are high as she takes on a role previously made iconic by Son Ye Jin in the original film. It drew more than 3 million viewers in theaters and was later adapted into plays and remade in several Asian countries.
Alongside her, actor Yang Se Jong has been cast as Ma Kang Wook, an ace prosecutor at the Seoul District Prosecutors’ Office. Sports Chosun reported that he was chosen as the male lead of the Spellbound drama remake.
Kang is an ace prosecutor from Seoul’s District Prosecutors’ Office, capable, righteous, and emotionally complex, who becomes entwined in Cheon’s supernatural plight after a chance meeting.
Yang Se Jong debuted in 2016 through Dr. Romantic and quickly rose to fame with lead roles in Temperature of Love, Still 17, and My Country: The New Age. After completing his military service, he returned to acting with Netflix’s Doona! alongside Bae Suzy and the recently concluded Low Life.
Production for Spellbound is expected to begin soon, with a projected air date in 2026, though nothing has been formally confirmed by the actors or their agencies yet.
