Red Velvet – Irene & Seulgi Expected to Make a May Comeback

Red Velvet's Irene and Seulgi

Red Velvet – Irene & Seulgi will reportedly begin unit activities next month. The duo is set to release a unit album after five years.

On April 11, My Daily exclusively reported that the subunit Red Velvet – Irene & Seulgi will make a comeback in May. The unit debuted with their first mini-album, “Monster,” in July 2020, making their upcoming comeback their first in five years.

In February, SM Entertainment’s comeback lineup revealed that Red Velvet – Irene & Seulgi will make a return in the second quarter.

Their debut 6-track album “Monster” received an overwhelming response from Red Velvet fans. It included the title track “Monster” and b-sides “Naughty”, “Diamond”, “Jelly”, “Uncover”, and “Feel Good”.

At the time of release, the album “Monster” topped iTunes in 45 countries including Canada, France, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, Russia, New Zealand, and more. Moreover, it surpassed 80,000 copies sold on the day of the release.

Earlier this year, Red Velvet activities kicked off with Seulgi’s solo comeback with her second mini album, “Accidentally on Purpose,” around two and a half years after the release of her solo debut album, “28 Reasons,” in October 2022.

On the other hand, Irene was the last Red Velvet member to make a solo debut with the EP “Like a Flower”, which dropped on November 26 last year. It features 8 tracks and sold 336,805 copies in its debut week.

Red Velvet fans are buzzing with excitement as they eagerly await the return of Irene and Seulgi as a unit. Having enjoyed their solo projects, fans now look forward to seeing what the dynamic duo will bring to the table with their next collaboration.

In other news, Red Velvet members Yeri and Wendy announced their departure from SM Entertainment earlier this month. They did not sign a contract extension for individual activities, however, will continue with group endeavors. They are currently looking for new agencies and Yeri is in talks to join Blitzway Studio.
