Red Velvet’s Joy, also known as Park Sooyoung, is officially returning to acting with the new drama One of a Kind Romance. According to SPOTV News on September 30, the idol has been cast as the female lead in the live-action adaptation of the hit webtoon by author Dubu. The webtoon One of a Kind Romance was serialized on Naver in 2018 and remains one of the most beloved romance titles among fans.
The story follows Gong Yu Il, an ordinary young woman searching for stable employment, whose daily life is suddenly disrupted by the arrival of two stars, idol Ryu Min and top actor Tak Mu Yi, reportedly by Kim Hyun Jin.
Joy takes on the role of Gong Yu Il, a character known for her bright and spirited personality. Even when faced with setbacks, she never loses her smile and continues working part-time at a convenience store while quietly pursuing her dream of becoming a writer.
Her life takes a dramatic turn when she crosses paths with Tak Mu Yi, a famous actor who began his career as a child star. Their relationship begins on shaky ground after Mu Yi mistakes her for a stalker, but the misunderstanding soon leads to an unexpected bond.
This drama marks Joy’s return to television as an actress after nearly four years away from scripted roles. She has previously built an impressive acting career with performances in Tempted, Once Upon a Small Town, and The One and Only.
Starring opposite her is actor Kim Hyun-jin, who has been cast as Tak Mu Yi, as reported by SPOTV News. His character is a top star who has lived much of his life in front of the camera since his childhood. The original webtoon’s fans were highly interested in who would play this role, and Kim Hyun Jin’s casting has been welcomed as a suitable fit.
Kim Hyun Jin, who began his career as a model in 2016, made his acting breakthrough in the 2022 SBS drama Cheer Up and has since gained attention for his versatile roles in TVING’s Dreaming of a Freaking Fairytale, JTBC’s My Sweet Mobster, and MBC’s Crushology 101.
He is also set to appear in Lee Jung Jae and Lim Ji Yeon’s Nice to Not Meet You, airing on tvN and Prime Video between November 3 and December 23.
No official confirmation about the cast and broadcast details of webtoon adaptation One of a Kind Romance has been announced by the production company.
