G-Dragon’s long-awaited comeback performance on SBS Gayo Daejeon was supposed to be a highlight of the year for K-pop fans. Instead, it was plagued by technical issues and production mishaps, and poor stage conditions.
SBS Gayo Daejeon 2024 was held at INSPIRE Arena on December 25, with performances from all major K-pop artists. Stray Kids, NewJeans, ITZY, IVE, ENHYPEN, TXT, BOYNEXTDOOR, ZEROBASEONE, TWS, 2NE1, NMIXX, Lee Young Ji, and more artists performed at the year-end music festival.
The BIGBANG leader returned to SBS Gayo Daejeon after 8 long years. However, his performance was marred by technical issues, including a broadcast mishap due to sound problems.
He delivered a thrilling performance of his latest single “Power” alongside fan-favorite hits “Sober” and “Crooked”.
G-Dragon’s live performance sparked controversy after the show. His vocals, usually praised for being smooth and catchy, were marred by throaty singing, off-key ad-libs, and rhythm issues. However, fans who attended the event clarified that the problems were due to technical issues with the sound equipment at the 2024 SBS Gayo Daejeon.
According to eyewitnesses, his in-ear headphones malfunctioned, and microphone problems also affected the performance. Direct cam videos from the event appeared to support these claims.
During the performance of “Crooked”, he repeatedly pointed to his earphones, clearly struggling to hear. At one point, he even mouthed “I can’t hear you” to the staff off-stage. Despite microphone problems, G-Dragon pushed through, visibly out of breath. Still, he impressively maintained control of the stage and delivered an incredible performance.
In other news, G-Dragon emerged as the winner of the “My Santa Claus” voting event on the My Favorite Idol app, held alongside the SBS Gayo Daejeon. As a result, he generously donated 100 million won to support the Milal Welfare Foundation’s child welfare initiatives.
